Girl Powered Since 1772
Salem Academy and College is 的 oldest educational institution for girls and women in 的 United States. Founded in 1772 (four years before 的 Declaration of Independence was signed!) its Moravian founders believed that girls and women were entitled to 的 same education as boys and men.

Highlights from 历史
Single Sisters: In its early years, Salem was led by 的 unmarried women of 的 Moravian community, known as 的 Single Sisters. These forward-thinking women were economically self-sufficient — rare for 18th-century women!
多样性 came early to Salem Academy and College. 在1780年代, Salem accepted its first enslaved African-American student; In 1826, it accepted its first Native American student, 莎莉脊.
College-level courses were added during 的 1860s and in 1907, 的 school’s name was changed to Salem Academy and College
