Personal Travel

In preparation for and during Fall 2021, Salem students, faculty, and staff who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are encouraged to limit unnecessary personal travel to the extent possible for the safety of the campus community.

Notification of International and Cruise Ship Travel

By July 15, 2021, students and employees who are not fully vaccinated for COVID-19, must notify Salem of any international or cruise ship travel scheduled to occur within 10 days prior to (or as part of) their scheduled campus re-entry. Students should notify Health Services of any such travel plans by emailing Jennifer Pyrtle-Horan, RN at j.pyrtle-horan@salem.edu. Employees should notify Salem of any such travel plans by emailing Human Resources at hr@salem.edu. This notification requirement is an ongoing obligation during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Quarantine and Testing After International or Cruise Ship Travel

Unvaccinated campus members who travel internationally or via cruise ship prior to their scheduled return to campus or at any time during the 2021–2022. Travelers are also expected to comply with all CDC travel testing and COVID-19 prevention measures. Vaccinated individuals must obtain a COVID PCR test 3-5 days after arriving back in the USA. Unvaccinated individuals must obtain a COVID PCR test 3-5 days after arrival back in the USA and quarantine for a full 7 days, regardless of PCR results. These results must be submitted to Health Services by emailing j.pyrtle-horan@salem.edu. Unless special permission has been requested and approved by Salem, campus members should plan to quarantine off campus.

Salem-Sponsored Travel

For Fall 2021, Salem-sponsored travel will be permitted subject to COVID-19 Health and Safety Policies. Pursuant to the Salem Academy and College Travel Policy, Salem-sponsored travel is defined broadly and includes travel that:

  • is funded in part or in full by Salem;
  • is awarded course credit;
  • is organized by a recognized Salem group such as a class or club;
  • is planned, organized, and/or accompanied by a Salem employee; or
  • is part of a program, conference, or other event for which an individual is authorized to be representing Salem.

For health and safety reasons, students and employees who wish to participate in international Salem-sponsored travel must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
